Information

MAX485 is a simple interfacing circuit that makes TTL-leveled signals RS-485 compatible. Being that RS-485 isn't truly full duplex, it's necessary to tell the device whether we want to send or receive. This is done using the /RE and DE pins, when high the device will send. By using MAX485 together with MAX202 it's possible to make a RS-232 <-> RS-485 converter, see image below.

Pins

  1. RO Receiver Output
  2. RE Receiver Output Enable
  3. DE Driver Output Enable
  4. DI Driver Input
  5. GND Ground
  6. A Noninverting Receiver Input and Noninverting Driver Output
  7. B Inverting Receiver Input and Inverting Driver Output
  8. VCC +5V Positive Supply
