Information
A optoisolator, or optocoupler, is a small circuit with a LED and a light dependent sensor. When power is applied to the LED it shines on the sensor, causing the transistor to open for a larger electrical current. By using this methods the different sources never encounter one another, making them electrically isolated. Useful for inputs, when the source signal is from a separate power supply.
