Information
A voltage regulator is a component that automatically maintains a constant voltage level. Useful for powering AVR controllers using a higher voltage source; like 12 or 24 volts. Two capacitors must be used, connected to both input and output with respect to common ground. Using a diode is wise, as the voltage regulator don't like switched polarities.
